New to Gas and plumbing

I am currently in the forces and am leaving later in the year. I was wanting to get gas safe registered, i have been looking at courses online and have seen intensive courses that take 4 weeks with a 1 week placement to build your portfolio and then a 3 day ACS assesment. What is the veiws of these courses and would i be prepared to enter the industry knowing enough to get by??? I am not sure if the course would be a waste of money by not being able to get work after due to it being frowned at or is it respected??

Well you wont get Gas Safe reg by doing any intensive course, looking at 4 years and loads of money, As things are in this trade you need to think about doing somthing else, You will get loads of information on here But forget being Gas Safe in 5 weeks just will not happen !!

That was exactly what i was thinking, so what takes the time to become gas safe the portfolio??
They claim you will have covered these in 4 weeks
Qualifications gained:

• CSkills ACS Certification Domestic Central Heating and Instantaneous Water Heaters CENWAT1
• CSkills ACS Certification Domestic Cookers CKR1
• CSkills ACS Certification Domestic Space Heaters HTR1
• CSkills ACS Certification Domestic Meters MET1
• CSkills ACS Certification Combustion Performance Analyser CPA1
• CSkills Energy Efficiency
• CSkills Certification Combination Boilers Basic **
• CSkills Certification Essential Electrics **

Is this realistic and is a porfolio possible in 1 week??

To put it in one word `NO` if you have no experance in the plumbing trade how do you expect to learn all about it in 4 weeks Gas Safe won't eaven look at your application form, for these people to tell you that you will be gas safe in 5 weeks is totley missleading, 1 week for a portfolio in gas ! they are taking the P , who is going to sign it to say that you can work safely with gas ! think you will find it takes 12 mths workin with a gas safe engineer, if you think that you are going to do these ACS assesments in 3 days you need a very loud wake up call. You need to ring Gas Safe in Basingstoke and have a chat with them.You ARE-NOT going to come out of the Forces be gas safe and working on anything to do with gas in 5 weeks.

Pm armyash he was were you are now a year ago. As an ex squad die my myself do not believe you will get rich from been a plumber when your out

How can companies get away with this, if this is the case? Its got all the acredited bodies, surely they have to look into this??? I think i will give them a ring and have a chat about it. Thanks for the help jtsplumbing.

Bod, i will give him a message thanks. I know i wont get rich but i'll have a living, i wont get rich in the forces either. Plus i wont loose my legs as a plumber lol!!!! If you could do it all again what would you do?

now thats an informed choice. you have looked at it and decided its not for you having looked at the facts. this is the way forward, not looking to shut down courses as many may see this differently and still decide to do the course, which i also agree with
