Hello all,

I’m planning on doing bathroom and kitchen improvements and have decided on more or less everything. However, one thing of concern in the toilet!

I want to get a close-coupled toilet but have heard with the new (ish) regs, the button flushes are not very effective.

The store I am purchasing from have the following ranges within my budget (£300-350...ish):
- Hudson Reed
- Phoenix
- Kartell

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of these brands? Apparently the first two are made in China but the quality is good. Kartell is manufactured in Turkey/EU and may be a little better.

Any advice or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :D

Many thanks!

Hi there Mika and welcome to the forum, there are that many brands of bathrooms nowadays that it's hard to know wots wot, saying that it's been a while since I've seen a really bad porcelain mould, the push buttons can give u half or full flush , half flush is 3-4 litres and the big flush 6 litres, the older handle with syphonic action used to give u a 6 - 9 litres flush so it's a fair difference,

Any of the ones you mention will be fine.
The flush on them will be better than your current one.

Buy British if you can. Too much stuff sourced from EU or China etc and not all of it is good.
I like Twyfords for some of their higher quality nice designed toilets. That's if you can find the design you like. I think Twyfords did a Galerie (spelling?) toilet that is a nice standard modern design and for less than you budget, for example, if you didn't want anything madly different.
Some foreign sanitary ware is no doubt nice unique design & quality and bought because of that, but it is obvious that a lot of sanitary ware is got for high margins of profits for merchants.

Thanks guys, I will keep this in mind. Visiting the store tomorrow so will check what deal/brands are on offer

Do not go to the store.
Cheap crap aimed at the consumer.

Go to a proper plumbers merchant and adk to see vitra toilets. You will most likely have to choose from a catalogue picture. Excellent quality. Reasonable price.

Kartell is budget stuff.

Seconded. Vitra is stonkingly good quality for the price and puts a lot of the "premium" stuff to shame...

Vitra for me too.
Fit loads of it , is heavy and always straight. Very good quality for the money.
