Hi, although I'm not a plumber I've decided its something I want to get into.

I'm interested in Gas Installation and Maintenance and would appreciate someone listing the qualifications I need to achieve this.

Many thanks.

Chris

Welcome to UKPlumbersForums.co.uk chris4891. Thanks for introducing yourself.

hi chris, if i were you id be looking at doing the water side of things first at your local college(6129 tech cert). that is your level 2 then you have to complete your nvq 2 alonside this(if you have employment) then you go onto the level 3 tech cert wich teaches you the gas side of things followed by the nvq level 3.

there are places in wich you can do a gas foundation course but you would have to be working alongside a registerd gas engineer.

what sort of training were/are you wanting to do?? college etc...

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently an HGV driver and getting fed up with the very long days, unsociable hours etc etc.

My dad has been a self employed plumber since leaving school so I have an option to work with him once I have a few qualifications.

I was hoping to find a one stop shop training course to get me qualified as I wanted to concentrate on doing landlord gas safety certification, boiler installation, servicing and repair rather than full plumbing.

Currently I think my dad gets his gas work checked and signed off by a Corgi/Gas Safe Registered Plumber so I'm guessing I couldnt build a portfolio working alongside my dad?

I have the option of taking a career break of up to 3 months so ideally looking for a fulltime course that can achieve my objectives

you could possibly do a one night a week college course, but you will not be able to get you portfolio signed off by your dad until he has his gas certs.

the other option is fast track courses, wich im no fan of, they cost a fair bit and dont really give you enough time to absorb what your being taught.

my advice is have a look into a gas foundation course at your local college and see if you could get your dads mate to help out with your progression.

good luck
