Hi there,

I have a newbuild with wet UFH though 5 zones downstairs and radiators upstairs. The upstairs zone is simply controlled by a timer and TRV's on all non bathroom radiators. The original house specification called for a thermostat upstairs on landing, but this has erroneously been missed out.

What are the consequences of this given the UFH downstairs and will it need remedial action or not?

thanks & regards

The system wouldn't meet current building regs without one. They should fit one. A wireless room thermostat will resolve the issue quite easily.

Curious - What is the sq/m of the floor area of the property

Thanks SmokeyJ.
A similar thought crossed my mind and then I thought that the room stat would simply close down the boiler that was otherwise needed for the UFH (on for longer albeit set to lower temperature downstairs), and the TRV's would simply assist in "diversion" of heat flow into the UFH circuit. I'm prepared to be told that I'm wrong. Failing building regs would be a clincher to be honest....!

Just wondering with the amount of zones you have.

What controls do you have at the moment ?
Ideally for ease could it be integrated with your current controls ?
It would simply be zone valved to allow the boiler to supply heat as required / or not without upsetting other demand

In respect of controls I have Polypipe programmable zone thermostats for UFH. For radiators I have TRV. Also 2 channel 24 hr programmable timer for upstairs radiators and hot water.

No compensation for weather. Always cold & wet at my location....

As yet no roomstat, but will likely request WiFi version. Is this to be wired to a pumped zone valve as per the timer or direct to the boiler?

Incidentally hot water zone valve making nasty noise when "on", could this be air in the system?

Your radiator circuit will need it's own 2 port valve....bet they haven't fitted one

there isnt a 1g blank face plate any where (about 1.5m off the floor)

Interested in the temperature of the stored hot water?

Post a few pictures of the boiler and airing cupboard. We can advise you better what to tell the builders you need.

Just an update on this

The thermostat has been wired in across the timer switch, so that when there is a possibility of heat demands based on the timed settings then the thermostat is invoked. Setting it to 20 degrees with the room TRV fully open and having using other TRV’s to balance the heat needs through other rooms seems to result in a pleasant environment.

An earlier poster mentioned the h/w. Unbeknown to me there was also a thermostat on the hot water tank (180L) which results in a similar response on the water circuit (The Worcester Bosh is just using a single “output” to feed both heat and water). In this way once the tank is at temperature then a 2 port valve closes to block further heat. I have a solar PV thermostat boost, so that will shorten the time taken to temperature.

I think all is well with the arrangement. Thanks for those who read & responded.

Thanks for updating us
