I wonder if any can help give us some idea of what is likely to be wrong here, please bear in mind I know nothing of plumbing or heating.
Currently our CH is not working. When you turn the thermostat (Honeywell T6360a?) it clicks on to in theory switch the heating on. However, whether the timer (old Danfoss 103) is on or on override the boiler is not firing up so no heating. If you go up to where the hot water tank, pump and 3-port valve (Horstmann?) are, the valve has a light indicating that the CH should be on.
If I turn the thermostat on the HWT up, everything appears to be working. I held a screwdriver against both the pump and the valve and felt vibration through both of these.
My question is, is this a problem with the timer, a valce stuck shut or something completely different?
Any (simple) help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello BrassMonkey and welcome to the forum,
as said usual fault is with a worn or sticking motorised valve,
but could be other issues.
have you tried opening the manual lever on the valve?
the fact the boiler works for hot water tells you that it is a control/valve problem.
if its something your not confident with then best to call a plumber to sort it.
you can post your general location on the "looking for a plumber" section
and a member here close to you might be able to respond.

Thank you both for your replies, I have called a professional in. His first response over the phone when I explained the problem was that it was the valve. He is coming later today to have a look at it and hopefully fix tomorrow. I decided the job was a little out of my league, containing too many elements I wasnt happy with.
Fingers crossed we will have heating tomorrow!

Quick update.
The heating is not yet fixed, but when the guy came yesterday he got the heating to work by getting the switch on the motorised valve to manual and clicking the hot water thermostat on. The valve is kaput and he is hopefully getting another one today for it. He also changed the room thermostat as that wasnt looking too great inside.
Our heating systems plumbing, has apparently been fitted and modified by idiots, which at some point could do with restructuring correctly. This sadly, is not top of my priorities right now, but he did suggest looking at The Green Deal for this.
Fingers crossed for a fix today, but I will keep you updated.

Final Update: we have heating. It was the motorised valve that was broken and the thermostat. Both have been replaced. There are still some unique qualities to the system that will need sorting at some point, e.g. timer turns boiler on/off not thermostat.
Thank you so much for all your advice, it was great and spot on!
