I need to drain a heating system that seems to have no drain tap on any of the rads. The house is a new build and the rads are the style with the plastic microbore pipes exiting the wall behind the rad which connect to valves with no drain tap, just the drain screw. Only way i can see of draining them is to unscrew the screw and catch the water once it comes out which could be very messy.
Surely this cant be the only way to drain the system?

Close one rad at both valves and drain it by undoing one valve and catching water in small bowls, regulate flow with the vent, kitchen is best if tiled or lino covered floor. When rad is empty undo valve and simply connect a 1/2 or 3/4 inch bsp fitting to rad vale with hose connected to a bit of 15mm pipe and open rad valve to drain system

Cheers....So there is no drain point on these systems them? Seems a bit backward to me.

must admit ive never drain through one of those valves with the screw in the end of the valve but ive been told you shut the valve down and put a container under the spigot open the screw till flow stops(dont open the vent ) then attach hose and open valves then drain as normal ie open vents starting at the top of building

steve think you've misunderstood me,by open vent i mean vent on rad he is to drain.we don't bleed rads do we?we vent them

i think he has the 10mm valves with a drainpoint built in where the method of opening them is an internal screw which you cant get to once the hose is on

ive been bleeding rads for years the new term at college nmight now be venting but any form of let of valve is called a bleed screw/point in engineering terminology you will find them on all sorts of fuel and water lines so im going to stick with bleeding

New college terms I'm not aware of,but rads need to be vented to get rid of air, seen loads of ferrous stained black stuff whilst venting them but never any red!Pedantic I know, but hey ho mid 40's not fast tracked.Fully ACS qualified,Sole Trader.Gas Safe Registered.City and Guilds qualified too.:D
