Have a potterton boiler... sealed system... pressure is just below 1 bar
and want to top it up.. theres no filling up so wondering where would be the
handiest way to top it up from

Not that I am saying you are mistaken about not having a filling loop but often on system boiler installations it can be in the strangest place as no mains supply may be near the boiler,if the system has been converted from a open vented system,it could be in the roof space on old tank pipework, also could be under stairs, check were mains cold pipework runs and see if you can see a filling loop from the mains connecting to the heating side
other than that you will have to fill from system drain point with hose pipe from outside tap or kitchen tap

Thanks 4 reply mate,Im 100% certain no filling loop... Have checked everywhere and thers no drainoff either to be found... so i need to drain and fill from somewhere so wonderin where???

there is a filling loop somewhere. it may or may not have a braide hose atteched. but it will have a branch with caps fitted somewhere, its a matter of finding it. it caould be behind kitchen cupboards etc.

alot of boilers come with an optional filling loop fitted into the boiler, you can normally get to it from underneath, what model potterton is it?

Prima's does not have an integral filling facility so has to be filled with an external filling loop. Check the pipework again. The filling loop may have been removed but you should see somewhere where the cold feed and heating return pipes have been capped off ??

its a potterton prima c

Well you have time to sort out as the system pressure on a cast iron heat exchanger boilers like the prima only needs to be 1/2 bar pressure when cold
Take a good look round ,if not you are best fitting one, were you can

remove a rad, drain the system, cut a filling loop in and re-fill. you now have a filling loop. BUT the system has obviously been filled so this is the last resort!!!!!!
