No hot water to shower

Hi. I wonder if anyone can help. We have a basic mixer tap shower in our main bathroom. We moved into the house a couple of years ago but we have an en-suite so have never used this shower until a family member stay. The hot water will not keep the shower lever up, cold water works fine.
we have had a couple of people in to quote, one said a pump but didn’t send a quote and the other said a new shower. We are happy to pay for what is needed but ideally we weren’t thinking the cost of a whole new shower (£1500) when it will only be used on the odd occasion.
Could I please ask people’s opinion on what you think it could be and what is needed, new shower, new pump etc? Thanks

Sounds like mains cold water and tanked hot water.

Do you have a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard?

Easy solution, especially if it's not used much, is to make a spacer (or find something suitable like a big fat clothes peg!) to prop the lever up with when you want a shower!
