Hi all,
any help appreciated for complete novice.
I have oil fired centra Hot Press1.jpgHot Press1.jpgl heating with a burner and circulating pump in a detached garage.
Was having problems with pump so bought a new one and tried to fit it myself.
Guy who had installed the burner had piped it with HEP pipe and when I went to screw on new pump,
joints broke and ended up draining my system. Duh !!
Anyhow, got it patched up and filled system again. After lots of radiator bleeding, I now have all the radiators hot.
However, in my airing cupboard (hot press), I have a water storage tank where I believe a coil from the central heating system passes through to heat my domestic water.

The horizontal pipe that feeds this is warm, it meets a 3 port valve and from this there is a short length of horizontal pipe to the inside of the cylinder and another vertical length of pipe dropping down from it which meets another horizontal pipe coming out of the cylinder.

The solid line to the right of the vertical is stone cold.
The solid line to the left is a little warm.
V is the 3 way valve
All dotted lines are warm.

Apologies for the text diagram, although am quite pleased with it lol.

Hot water tap has flow, just no hot water ?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

The scourge of the diy plumber!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive got no idea what that valve is, It looks like a blending valve certainly not a three port.
Im with the other two call someone whos got a clue. dont think its going to be cheap experience

that looks very similar to inline valves they used to fit in council houses round my way. there was a phial coming off the head attached to the cylinder which would shut the flow when the set temp was acheived. that one looks like it just diverts the water away from the cylinder when satisfied. sounds like the insides are stuck or knackered. no doubt somebody will be along soon to tell you if there still available.

Guess what, that lot of 15mm pipe work is also full of air & needs bleeding but is there an air vent , otherwise you have to ask yourself, do you lucky ?? Well do you Mr DIY. If not do what the boys say call a pro !!!
The valve is a 3 port TapStat thermostatic cylinder control, not good.

It's a temperature regulated bypass valve. As the cylinder reaches temperature it sends the primary water round the bypass.

You youngsters probably haven't come across it before.....

ive used alot on ceiling panel radiators in hospitals they come with differing lengths to the phile so you can put them away from the rad to stop conflicts. Dont they come on LST's aswell been a while since i fitted one.

Ok guys ,thanks for the help.
From what I gather, this is not the way to do it.
House was built new in 2000 so not that old really.
There is no bleed valve above near this, but there is one in the garage beside the oil burner.

When you write lucky, are you saying that it's dangerous like this ?

If I put a motorised valve in its place, it obviously needs wired in?
There is a few sockets close by, one for the immersion heater and one for a power shower pump.

I have called a plumber but apparently very busy at minute and waiting on them calling me back.
Would like to know a little of what I'm talking about so he can't talk the cost up.

Apologies for being sceptical.

What should be there instead of the valve?
