Hi all,

I have just fitted my first toilet and ideal standard studio closed coupled.

The instructions are for both a handle and paddle flush but not the push button that the actual cistern comes with and I have never fitted one before.

Can't quite work it out so thought I'd post.

Here is what I have.

4 rods
one large foot plate
one small foot plate
large and small buttons
push button fitting

Here is a pic, one of the bits I have not fitted and one with the push button secured to the cistern lid with a nut and washer...

Here is the insides of the cistern...

I can see that I use rods to fit to the cistern lid and use this to flush either using the small or large foot.

However, why are there 4 rods, are two spare?

What in the cistern are the large and small feet designed to press?

Is it the white circular piece with the screw in and the black trigger thing. If so which is the small and which is the large flush?

The rods appear too long for the cistern is it normal to cut them down?

Any help appreciated.

Right am answering my own post...

What I did was push the rods through from the top with the cistern lid in place and pushed them through until the hit the white circular disk..

Now it flushed but the small and large buttons both push the same circular disk - and because they flush to the same height they both do a full flush.

So how do you get it so that the small button does half a flush? Do you simply break a bit more off the rod so that it goes down less than the large rod?

thats an ideal compact flush valve looking at it.

yes.

the black part across the top

i remember doing it but can't remember what i done.
if it was in front of me not a problem

i remember it was pretty straight foreward.

Basically the rods snap off, they are in place now.

Now when you press the small flush - the white disc is pushed down and with the full flush - the white disc is pushed down and the black trigger.

I can't see a way to make the small flush rod shorter - to push the white circle down less - so I guess that this is how it is. Main thing is that it flushes.

if i remember the one i done was single flush not dual.

operate it by hand can you get small/full flush out of it ?

The rods should be different thicknesses and each will only fit into one of the buttons and discs, should be idiot proof. Cant quite remember which way round it works but i think small button/flush should just push the central white disc, and the large button/flush should push the central white disc AND the black lever to get the larger flush, or it may be the other way round. Those rods have a ratchet on them so you can only push them through in one direction. You push them in from the top, not too far, attach the discs, put the lid on and then push more rod through until they "nearly" touch the flush mechanism. If you push too much through the flush will run constantly and you have to pull the rod right through and start again. Once your happy with the setup cut the rods off flush with the buttons and fit the chrome tops

Thanks NickH that's where I got to. All the rods fitted either hole though.

your on the right track put it all together with the rods sticking out of the cysten lid check it works the cut them both level with the lid then the buttons just pop on top
