Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place to be, had a look around and it seems to be the place to get a little advice and a prod in the right direction, so thank you in advance if you do take the time and trouble to answer a simple question for me.
For background, I have a Honeywell system for connections to / from the Thermostat + Heating controls with the 10 way block (only 8 used). Also, this is configured in the Y Plan so I can get HW and CH together or independently.
Am I right in thinking that when the CH is called for from the programmer that I should get a live presentation Via terminal 4 on the connector block to the room thermostat, then when demand is ‘called’ I should get live presented back to terminal 5?
If somebody could confirm this, then I should be able to confirm that the programmer is indeed fkd. (I am fairly sure the heating coming on from the first time this year is what tripped the electrics and after this I could not get CH, hence the question)
If this is the case, does anybody know a good (pref cheap) sparky?

Many thanks for any and all assistance on this.

Assuming this is wired according to the honeywell wiring plans (not all systems are!):

When calling for heat:
If 4 is 240v then signal is coming from programmer correctly - programmer may well be working correctly
If 5 is 240v then signal is coming from room stat correctly - if 240v when room stat is calling and 0v when room stat is satisfied then room stat working correctly

The next part of the system is the zone valve:
White wire from 5 takes signal to zone valve
Orange wire takes 240v to boiler (via 8)

If white wire is 240v and orange is 0v and system calling for heat then it's probably the zone valve at fault (not uncommon). Try pushing lever to right and if this opens the heating circuit then it's probably the motor in the zone valve that needs changing.

Ironically, a plumber is more likely to be able to change this without hassle as opposed to an electrician! I'm not saying don't use an electrician but plumbers are dealing with these components much more frequently than electricians.

programmer is basically a switch, when that calls for heat it sends signal to stat, thats also a switch, when that calls for heta it send live to 3 port, then if how water also alls good, if not live also on grey and sends signal out on orange, with me?

Many thanks for this, confirms what i was thinking, the control unit does not appear to be calling heat and whatever the settings, there is no live on the thermo.

Many thanks to you and this forum, appreciate the adivce and will let yu know how the sparky gets on with the change.
Best regards to you! dontknowitall

Personally i like to wire everything into a puddin block with 3 core and earths to test whoever follows me
