I have recently had a Baxi Platinum 28kw boiler fitted and am dissapointed with the noise when the flame ignites.

It makes a boom which can be heard all over the house and its quite startling if your stood by it.

Should it be this noisey, can it be better adjusted.

Before I call the installer back I'd like to have some feedback from owners of this boiler or heating engineers who are familiar with it.

Thanks

not familiar but no you should barely hear it ignite even standing next to it well the ones i have installed anyway i normally need to check the flue to confirm it or check through the sight glass
that boiler sounds like it has a fault..i assume the fitter was gas safe registered

Could be a few things.

Possible gas valve slow ignition faulty and letting to much gas through at light up.
Although it may be letting enough through to allow the sensors to think a flame is present, thereby allowing it to open up to near full rate.

So although the sensor is saying "The burner is alight" the valve opens too quickly and gives a gas surge which then ignites to make a bang.

Could be a pcb problem as well. What ever it is if its a new job call them back its obviously not right.

Scares the wits out of you!

Had a few of this sort of problem on other makes.

has it done this from the start
whatever it isnt acceptable as you say its a recent fitment

Well thanks for your comments folks. I decided to push the Gas Registered installer to get Baxi to come so we fixed up an appointment.
He came today and after spending an hour asking my wife to run the tap putting hard earned water and gas down the drain he has pronounced that the wrong burner was fitted at the factory and attached a label to the boiler warning us not to use it.
He didn't have the part with him so he is coming back another day.

This is what ****es me off about our trade at times. By doing what Baxi did in the factory with the boiler and the wrong burner, im assuming it could of been potentially dangerous or immediately dangerous which is why they have stuck a label on it and said dont use it, but they wont get any come back about it, no gsr guy on their arse or health and safety insp banging at their doors. BUT if we was to get it wrong once they'd be crawling all over us.

and how is the gas safe installers fault its the person in the factory that has signed to say its working anyone here who fits boilers doesnt touch the parts atless there not working why would you?

i think its safe to say, the boiler is unsafe, and should be turned off straight away as unsafe.
danielp, if the gas safe installer who actually did the install, had done the correct commisioning on the boiler checking burner pressures, inlet pressures, and fga'd the flue, he would of discovered the problem and could of reported it back to manufacturer who in turn would of send out there own engineer to fix it asap.

turn off the boiler immediately, wait for an engineer to arrive.

dear god the loud bang every time it ignited would have alerted a 1 week apprentice let alone a supposed trained pro

well with out being there ..

????
you asked why it was the installers fault
well because he is responsible as the installer for commission of boiler and signing it off and the boom when it ignited means he should of immediatly contacted manufacturer and not allowed its use and capped it off to prevent householder using it as well..that is basics

I agree with Migo and newbie.

Its simple. If your the gas fitter it's down to you, you can't share the responsibility. And as has been said, you must commission it correctly, which should show up any faults.

so what if the the tests show positive on commission, depending on the loudness of the igniton this wouldnt come to your attention why do every one straight away say its the installers fault hes a cowboy ring the papers you dont need that in your job ??

quite simply if its been like that since day 1, its impossible to of been commisioned correctly. its not normal boiler behaviour and any common sense engineer would of questioned it.

how can it be the wrong burner?? it must be different shape or size? in which case it would rattle around in transport or be wedged in somehow..........i reckon baxi lad has made an excuse and ran, thus leaving another hapless baxi bloke to fix

could easily be the wrong burner, the external shape of the thing would be the same
could have the wrong injectors, wrong leads, electrodes. etc etc

the person in the factory should be sacked

the production line should be for one boiler type ?

its a bit like sticking a ford Mondeo engine in a fiesta

someone playing a joke

as nobody ever had a "friday afternoon" boiler??
things like this happen occasionally, thats why we have to commision properly

absolutely!!! it doesn't matter if a 6 yr kid made it, it's who leaves it gassed up that takes full blame!!
