Hi,
When I light my patio heater it is fine and very quiet, but after about 5 minutes it gets very noisy and the flames turn yellow. It looks like the flame is in the tube coming up to the burner. Is there an air leak before the burner or why would this occur. I'm stumped. Thanks in advance

get this checked out by an engineer...seems you may have a leak any yellow flame is producing co no while out in fresh air this isnt immdlty dangerous it nevertheless needs urgent attention

Any reason why it is ok for the first 5 mins, I am guessing that it is when everything expands. Are Yellow flames caused by oxygen getting in or not enough oxygen. I thought the former.

could be lack of primary air not seen these up close
is it sooty and is flame floppy

the flame is yellow and floppy, not sure about the sooty though. It appears there is a slight leak expelling gas at one of the joints before the burner. Would this cause it? The gas is fed up to a 'mushroom' burner and should be blue and hot, but it appears that the flame is in the feed tube (yellow and floppy) feeding out to the mushroom and it is the flame in the feed tube that is making the noise

gods way of saying, why are you trying to warm up your garden?, put on a coat

Yellow flame could be caused by:

# Scale on top of burner ==> Shut off heater; allow to cool; clean burner plate
# Burner orifice dirty ==> Inspect and clean
# Flue way clogged ==> Inspect and clean
:D:D:D

before coming to any assumption it would be better to be checked with an engineer.

Just out of curiosity. I'm a GSR and what ticket do we need to work on these?

Don't think there covered under regs I may be wrong but never seen anything about it

It's gas. So it will be covered.

Then go look it up then if your that bothered
And not everything is covered
