Hi Everyone,
I have a house in UK with an IDEAL boiler that had heat exchanger replaced under fixed price repair by Warmsure. The exchanger ceramic plates had broken (Warmsure/IDEAL plumber accidently let slip that this was a design fault - no clips were fitted to hold plates in place) - hole burnt through casing, hot gases perished spark cable which arcing to case appeared to destroy the electronics. One con artist corgi reg repairer first changed spark cable and pcb (charged me new price for a used board) then got Warmsure in as they offered a fixed price.
Result after 5 calls to property heating functions but now has intermittent droning/humming noise which is very difficult to pin point in location - can hear it upstairs but doesnt specifically seem to be in immersion cupboard (pump is there and 3 pos valve) or boiler.
System does seem to accumulate air in one upstairs rad in particular.
It is vented system with new header tank replaced many months before heat exchanger problem.
When the noise occurs then heating switches off the noise decays in volume and speed - as if it were a motor running down.
I want to systematically search for the cause.
Could it be the Fan motor in the boiler?? It will have been subjected to the hot gases from the leaky heat exchange but Warmsure refused to change it when I asked about this during the repair.
I am experienced DIY plumber and have designed and installed a large oil fired system in France - which is working well and is very quiet!!!
Thanks in advance!
