Nvq Level 2 question?

So I am 16 and have started my 1 year plumbing NVQ level 2 course. I came into this with no background information and I am managing ok but I am just wondering after I complete the course and IF I pass what would my next step be?

Quick and simple question:

Do you think an NVQ 2 is worth doing and if so how much would you pay for it. A friend has done 6129 level 2 and was thinking of doing a NVQ for £1500 - not sure if this is worth being assessed as what happens if he can not honour the criteria in the allocated time!!

Isn't he better waiting a while for the new courses to come in and then pick it up from there - while doing some practical work with me in the meantime
