Oftec 101

I am off to do my Oftec 101 in April for the first time, I am registered with my 105E and my 600 but I haven't got any "Boiler tools" what would I need to do commisining and service work? I am looking at flue gas analizers, I have a multi meter, is there anyting else I need?

Spanners, screwdriver set, allen keys, protective gloves, torch, mirror, rags, smoke pump, draught gauge, plenty of money for OFTEC registration, various general plumbing tools e.g. pump pliers, hammer, adjustable wrenches, flexible oil lines, various nozzles, measuring dividers, smoke matches and pellets, etc, etc.

Kneeling mat, cooking trays for catching oil during servicing, stanley knife, tape measure ... the list goes on ... and on ...

Yep, I have most of that, I was thinking along the lines of the specialist things, flue gas analizer,draught gauge etc.

Have not got gas, around here it is 90% oil and the only gas is lpg. My nearest mains gas is about 10 miles away so I don't get a lot of call for that

Look under the "plumbing tools" section. Lots of comments on the merits of various combustion analysers.

A set of ring spanners is a must for servicing boilers. A 1/4" drive socket set is also useful but don't buy a crappy imported one.

A Torx screwdriver set with long reach is useful for opening Riello casings.

I prefer T handle type hex set over allen keys but you still need allen keys for tight spaces.

Bearing puller for getting old motor bearings off.

Fan puller.

Small wire brushes for cleaning blast tubes. Stiff nylon brush and soft nylon brush for general cleaning. Old vacuum cleaner for cleaning out boiler chambers. Socket for removing nozzles. Nozzle carry case. Oil pump pressure gauge kit with all the adaptors. Flaring tool for pipes. mini pipe cutter, mini pipe bender.

most oil burners serviced with a set of allen keys, 15 bar pressure guage, smoke pump, fga, and a hoover.
spares - 30 odd nozzles (even then youll never have the right one) phone number for manufacturer (needed for co2 levels and oil pressure) new oil filters (always in 1/2 inch - carry steel reducers to 3/8 and 1/4). dont forget tubs of expelc !!

Thanks for your help guys, My shopping list is getting longer! I have most of the tools, got a 1/4 socket set coming tomorrow and a set of flue brushes, My biggest expence is going to be the flue gas analizer, chosing this I don't want to rush!

A set of hex drives (allen key type) for your socket set would be useful.

Make sure your bearing puller isn't too big as the arms on the larger ones won't go under the bearings.

Flue cleaning is a different course.
