hi all just joined this web site hope someone can help my worcester danes moor oil boiler 20/25 the red power light does not go off when programmer for hot water ends but fires up intermiterly. Tried changing the motorised valve but still the same problem, so at the moment having to switch off at wall socket hope this makes some sense .thanks

If the boiler is working OK sounds like a controller problem, or is there a fault with the cylinder stat / is it set right?

When you turn the hot water "off" on the programmer, is the primary circuit from the boiler still sending hot water to the cylinder?

Is the cylinder overheating?

When the hot water is up to temperature, is the boiler just firing for a few seconds every few minutes? If so it will be trying to maintain the boiler temperature set on the front dial of the boiler.

If you aren't sure, probably more a job for an electrician.

Have you checked the cylinder stat setting and the boiler stat setting before you try anything else. Cylinder stat should be 60/65 degrees and the boiler about 80 degrees (or about 2/3 - 3/4 the way round the dial)

yes both set at approx those settings never been touched since it started going wrong

So what exactly is happening? Are you saying that the boiler is short cycling, or is it just that when you turn off the system on the controller the boiler keeps on firing as if set on continuous? If it is the latter then the relay in the controller will be bust and you need a new controller.

when programmer for hot water is switched off water in cylinder does not heat up any more but boiler fires up occasionally for afew seconds

The boiler is trying to maintain its set temperature set on its thermostat.

Is the heating circuit still running whilst this is happening?

Suggest you get an electrician to take a look at it and check the wiring configuration as well.

With the heating and hot water set to "off" on the controller, is it still doing it? If so there's a fault somewhere on the control system.

Good point. Yes that would do it.

Hard to tell exactly without having a look though!

has it only just started doing this? does it have an eco buttong on the boiler?
