Hi forum im New to The game, I just wanna ask whats the difference between oil boiler and the gas boiler? Are there different components? Jets? Etc etc.

Two incredibly different beasts.

They both heat water and emit flue gasses. There the similarities end.

And here endeth the lesson!

Ones clean, the other you go home black and stinking of soot and kerosene.

Biomass.... tomorrow is lambda replacement and calibration day for 2 of mine.

mine is to finish pulling out a 5 yr old binder and replace it with a nice froling!

You deal with froling?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. ....That's handy to know.

You do much maintenance on them? I've one on my patch which I think I'm about to take over.

weve just started using them so still getting my head round them. mainly use ETA as they are a doddle to install, commission and use. i see Froling and Herz as the Vaillants of the biomass world, very good at what they do but way too complicated for what they need to be. Takes us 2 days to build a froling up, takes an hour to put an ETA on the floor and take off the clear wrap.

My understanding was that with gas your neighbour is trying to pinch it and with oil it's the nomadic caravan dwellers trying to pinch it

Got a couple of Gilles and a load of Hovals. Prefer the Hovals, think they're the Worcester Bosch of the biomass world, not everyone's cup of tea but those that like them really like them.

just secured our next job to strip out yet another Binder, been in since 2009, this one is in an underground plantroom so should be fun getting it out

does that mean that biomass only last 5 years before needing replacement ? :)

First boiler for Oil was a Trianco, fantastic piece of equipment but over time it started to
seep in water culminating in weekly and then daily visits to the boiler, open up, empty out the baffles, pump out the water, put back together and fire up...Packed in only when replaced with gas.

Oil was 9.5p a litre at the time, into a 1200 Litre tank, wasn't so bad to fill 4 times a year. My neighbours were paying 70p a litre last year, now currently around 42p a litre, probably still good value for money at that.

Alternatively, the first annual gas bill when the trianco was taken out rolled in at just under £340 so was cheaper, but now that the annual bill is in excess of £1k .

I'd probably go back to oil if given a choice simply because the boiler seemed much more efficient.

Oil condensing boilers can be very efficient- the Grant Vortex is Sebuk eff. of as much as 97%.
Overall costs, including repairs, compared with gas can be much lower I think.

ETA's rule, though I fully understand why missplumb is starting to use Froling..

i personally think the ETAs are the dogs danglies and if it was upto me i'd use them all the time. But i dont pay the bills so i have no choice but to fit what im told to, although the rest of the design of plantrooms and the whole job is upto me. The Froling on this project suited better although commissioning them is a pain in the arris!!
