why does my radiators only get hot upstairs but the downstairs are cold could it be the water pump
 
It's the classic symptom. If you feel the pump when it's on it should be vibrating (a bit like a mobile phone). Also if the water's hot one side but not the other then it's not pulling/pushing the water through. You can undo the large screw in the front face. If water dribbles out then it might not be the pump but if you only get a drip or two then it's probably best you get a replacement.
