Hi, Has anyone heard of a company called hunts and genova makers of old solvent weld water pipework
Are these one of the first to produce plastic pipework, Anyway got called to a leak today and was suprised to see this solvent weld pipework, I have got a JG coupler 5/8 to 15mm copper to splice in a new section IS THIS THE CORRECT FITTING TO USE but will i need inserts? Cheers

It's Hunter Genova CpVC if I recall correctly. Not sure on the sizing but you'll probably need some sort of solvent weld coupling to repair it.

Hahaha brilliant.. Yesterday my old apprentice ( engineer now ) went to change a wm valve on his own, tried turning the stopcock in the road and it seemed jammed, so asked where the internal stopcock was, turned out it was boxed in, in the corner of the kitchen, the custard (80yr old man) said

"be careful, next door had a major leak on theirs because the pipe was brittle and cracked"

The stopcock was connected to the pipe you're talking about, it was 18mm, my mate then gently tried turning the stopcock and SNAP!!!! Hahah right in front of the custard!

He managed to turn it off in the road in the end with a pair of stils on the water key.

He got a compression type coupling for it but had to phone around for hours to get his hands on it.

Is it this stuff?

That's tHe stuff my mate broke, he showed me it today, there's also another plastic used for mains, it's black, slightly flexible, brittle and a nightmare to get fittings for.

This sounds like the stuff in the pic, it's a lead lock you need

The stuff in your pic is very similar to the newer fittings they still use, mainly on larger scale storage tanks etc... I've fitted a few.

What size is the pipe and does it look like mikegas's picture?

The pipe work is white about 17mm and solvent weld just googled it and it may be called durapipe, i will try bss for spares
or marley equator fitting Thanks everyone for your input, nightmare stuff to work with wish i could rip it all out!

Bss will have it, you need a 15-21mm universal transition coupling.

Hope that helps.

Durapipe is grey and ABS. You can still get fittings and glue for ABS pipe from durapipe and Georeg Fischer. I think you've probably got to look at some sort of mechanical coupling as Whn1 says.

you can get compression fittings if you know where to go, which i dont :(

you can get durapipe abs fittings and glue from bss, pipe center etc.... it needs about 4 hours to set before turning the water back on, longer if the pressure is very high on the supply. Durapipe is common in large industry stuff, ive also seen it or simular on power flushers and pump sets.

Ive spoken to a local builers merchant today in croxteth liverpool which is where the whole estate is piped in this dredful stuff,
he bought loads off the builders when they finished the estate knowing the problem the locals would encounter in the future.
Its called jems and he has the couplers to get from hunter genova to 15 mm copper, Thought i would share this with you all as
everyone seems to be having problems trying to get access to spares.
