Chap has an old (30 odd years) close coupled toilet in yellow!

He dropped something on it, cracked it, tried to bodge fix it but it is leaking.

I told him no chance to fix.

He now wants to replace with a modern toilet.

If the old toilet floor fixings are difficult to undo, as they look embedded, rusted and covered in some sort of silicone plastic type paste, would you crack around and remove toilet and then get some grips on screws or cut them off?

The new toilet is smaller and so will sit forward of the wall and i'll need to fit some wood to locate cistern against. The waste goes vertically into floor and I hope the old pan connector comes off easily!

Always a challenge!

Thanks all

Rocket

Me personally I'd Vax the water in the pan up then smash it. Don't spend an age messing around trying to get the screws out.

Yeah, nice one, I was gonna crack around the screws.

What about the soil waste going into the floor? Any advice on that as it looks old and disgusting?!

Post up a pic of the swan neck. Modern pan might not fit the same and you might need a pan connector with a tighter bend like this one:

Normally it's a case of breaking out the old one close to the floor and inserting the spigot of the new pan connector and sealing it up, but a pic would help.

no need to seal rocket, the fins on the pan connector will do this. Just push it in as normal

Ok, Thanks again. Never connected a toilet where i pushed the pan connector in the waste pipe. Learning every job.

Thx

is it a clay pipe coming up from the floor or cast iron? is there a collar that the toilet pan used to go into?

picture would be very helpful

If its not a plastic pipe, but cast or clay, you'll need to put a seal round the fins.
