Older boiler services?

Hi folks. When you guys go out to service an older boiler do you actually strip and clean it regardless or do you take flue readings and inlet pressures before proceeding? Reason I ask is because some MIs state new gaskets and seals are required once the old ones have been disturbed??

So what Do you do then if one of the seals is no good once you’ve got the burner apart?

Ask the customer to send you a picture of the boiler and take a set of seals with you as a precaution. Forward planning saves the customer the headache and you get the job sorted first time.

I ask this question as I don’t work for myself I just get sent to the job. Personally, what you’ve advised is exactly what I would do.

Boilers like a potterton 60 or ferroli f24 or Baxi 33he? Anything old really rather than a 25si or something.

That sounds a bit unusual on old boilers, normally more of an issue with new stuff.

The new stuff we put in is always a Worcester, which if the fan pressure is ok it doesn’t require a strip down. Reading up on the Potterton it says it needs a new gasket if disturbed. That’s why I ask really as I’m sure most guys wouldn’t be arriving with new seals or gaskets to every boiler service ?

When you said old I thought you were going to say things like a Mexico, kingfisher, Concord wrs.

Older boilers were never a problem for seals it's new boilers that require seals and it's a pain. As some say every year others 3 years others when they need replacing.

Which Potterton ? The Baxi equivalent ones dont beed new seals.

you only need to change or fit new seals on suprima if damaged, but you wouldnt carry them unless you serviced a lot of them.

That brings me back to my original question in respect to, what do you do if you haven’t got them and you’ve stripped it and can’t get them off the shelf?
