I've a quandry...
A friend wants an outside tap installing and she has stipulated that she wants it over her gully outside...Fair enough.
To tee off from the mains (behind the washing machine) and run along the skirting to then ascend the wall to the penetration point would mean running the pipe up behind a radiator (there is enough room to do this behind the radiator). Alternatively i could go straight throught the wall from the mains and make up the distance externally with a length of pipe that would then need insulating and would be maybe 1.5m in length.
What would you lot do...? the way i see it, the behind radiator option would be neater on the eye and might even assist in preventing freezing but then there's bacterial growth issues.......
But the other option doesn't have this problem but still exposes a lot of pipework to the freezing elements and makes her nicely pebbledashed and otherwise empty wall look a mess!
Also i prefer to work in copper and know this needs sleeving throught the wall..what would you guys do for filling in the ends...ive used grip fill on mine but would a little cement be o.k...
thanks in advance🙂

NEVER run the pipe like you say outside! It will defnintely freeze and the pipe will split.

Provided there is room behind the radiator, take the radiator off the wall, do the job and then replace it.

Don't let any cement touch bare copper.

Thanks
I should be able to install the pipework without removing the radiator (besides i'm not confident in working on central heating systems yet).
what would you suggest for blocking up the ends of the sleeving?
I use grip fill on mine which actually worked quite well but would this be the 'professional' or 'ethical' thing to use..?
🙂

i would use silicone dont like gripfix as it dosnt let things move and dont forget not the put in the non return valves

for non return read double check valve, and also fit the wall adaptor facing up with a bend through the wall so that you can isolate in winter and open tap to drain water coming through the wall to stop it freezing

Thanks guys.
Will fit iso valve, double check and drain cock. Problem is, i know her husband whose a lazy git and wouldn't bother with the whole draining down for winter concept even if i showed him what to do. But we can but try.....😉
