I have been asked about installing a outside tap for a guy who lives in 2nd floor flat and he wants a tap putting near his front door meaning having to run a pipe down the outside wall also the cold water mains is on the oposite side of the house and the closest feed is the f&e tank in his loft can i branch off that or is that breaking regs

i hope you mean from the cold main inlet to the f&e!!!! if so no problem with that

Are they on meter,is it not possible to pick main up down stairs some were, has he spoken to down stair ,see if can come from there supply

You are going to have insulate well,if it is coming from loft to outside, how is he going to isolate it in winter

i might see if he wants it running down the wall inside then he can always paint the pipe or get some pipe covers i did warn him about the pipe being outside and being open to frost plus it doesnt look to good

I did one very similar to this, I ran the pipe down an inside wall in a place out of view(ish) put on an iso valve and then run the pipe outside and down the wall. Insulation does look really ugly and he didn't want it so as a compromise I ran the 15mm in plastic pipe.

Then to protect myself a little put on the invoice about insulation and draining down.......😱

Hi Gates. Some job you have to walk away from. Running pipes of this naturue are prone to vandalism, freezing and the general appearance if repeated turns the area into a slum, needless to say i feel the same about gas pipework. Good Luck

An external tap should not be more than 1.5 metres from your mains supply in the bulding. So, I would say, it's a no no!!

1.5 metres from the mains why's that ?
