I remember selling 4mm cable for the cheapskates who were putting in 6kw electric water heaters or showers. I don't know if it was legal, but it used to happen in the 80s.

I agree these water heaters are carp. First time I got sent to one, the flow was so poor I thought it was broken. One of the lads said to me it's not broken they are just carp.
That's useful, I didn't know sparkies used any rules at all, let alone a rule of thumb, now were are my regulation to find that rule............here it is stone age caveman regs BC 20,000, the rule of thumb
"if your cave is cold light a fire, current guidelines suggest that dry wood burns best, but you must read rule number 008 "rule of thumb" to ensure a safe installation"
Rule 008 "suck your thumb and hold into wind if the thumb goes cold on the cave entrance side that indicates a prevailing wind from outside to inside and it will blow smoke into the cave, do not light"
