Hi guys, i need some help, thermastat on one of my rads was not working, the rad would not heat up, so i removed the therastat and push the pin in and out a few times, still not working so i pulled the pin, and it came out completely,:p so did some water, so i pushed it back in quickley, now it does not move at all, what is the solution, the water has stopped coming out but the rad is still not coming on!!! help please

Deb

Hi Deb, Looks like you need a new tr valve ...call a plumber. ;)

Hi john, if i take one of the other trv s off one of my other radiators that work, would it work on the radiator that does not work, and if it does then that means this one is faulty and i do indeed need another.
Next qestion is, are the pins in the rad supposed to come completely out or have i broken something!
Deb

Maybe the valve on the other end of the rad is closed or seized not allowing the circuit to flow or even sludged up.
Just a thought.
Try replacing both valves.

Deborah, the TRV (Thermostatic Radiator Valve) is not just the head you can twist off, it is also the metal bodied part connected to the rad and the radiator. But a new complete TRV, pipe freezing kit and get a plumber to swap it out for you.

If it's an open vented system it can be plugged (feed and vent) and valve changed 1 at a time,to save draining down and any problems re-filling the system.

a new valve is needed! in future, tryin knocking the valve body as this can some times free the internals of the valve! never a good idea to pull the pin!!!!!!!!!!
