Hi I have a baxi boiler behind fireplace in the cupboard beside fireplace there is a pipe that has a screw thread in it but no screw this is where it is dripping the cupboard is dry but can tell damp over time, salty deposits also I know nothing about boilers but don't want to be ripped of by engineer as last person to touch was engineer last year, can you tell me if pipe should be open and dripping or requires screw also name of pipe please pic attached thank you

That looks very much like an old spring tensioned safety valve.

These often drip when very old. These are still available and usually
a fairly quick and easy job for a plumber to replace.

It is unlikely to burst and flood the place and would probably
weep for a long time without being too much of a problem.

Its a old style saftey valve employ a GSRI to replace it and service and test the back boiler and fire front , the regulations have been contravened if you have removed the fire front and are not GAS SAFE REGISTERD . KOP

Thank you I'm not touching anything as I know nothing, the engineer was in there December last year today I noticed salting outside the small cupboard and signs of long term dripping it's dripping probably ever 10 minutes but has obviously damaged some brickwork, thanks your advice helped
 
That ok then Misty just get it replaced and a service and gas saftey check regards Kop
