Hello everyone, I have a building to be converted to 8 residential flats. It will be 7 one bedroom and 1 two bedroom flats which have one bathroom, one kitchen including washing machine but no dishwasher in each flat. I submitted the application to the water company to add 7 more water meters. I was asked about the required pipe size if greater than 32mm and also the anticipated peak flow rate. Can anyone help please? I checked online and seems the calculated peak rate is just 0.45l/s per flat. Not sure if this is correct. Thanks a lot!
 
My opinion is, that if you’re in the financial position to convert into 8 flats/ apartments, you’ll also have the pennies to spend on an engineer to design and calculate your services, so everything is done perfectly.

It’s a form that’s quite new from the water authorities.
You have to work everything in litres per second .

Your workings out equals 26litres a min at peak flow. So your about right.
The trouble is, no matter what figures you give them and even of they do upgrade the main. Your still stuck with the mains pressure available locally.

I would apply for a 50mm main to the building. Splitting into separate 25mm mains, to each flat.

I am hoping the water company will set up 7 separate mains with meters to the building with standard 32mm pipe but I think you are right as the pressure could be the main issue here. Many thanks!
 
Each flat will have it's own dedicated water meter and its own supply these are usually connected externally to the building via a manifold and a series of stopcock chambers and water meters fitted by the water company, mdpe pipework of 25mm 8 in total should be taken to a plant room where internal valves are fitted . Internal pipework is taken to each flat via a service void usually in 22mm i have worked on several of these projects and they have been done this way . Cheers kop
