Hi all,
The extension I'm working on is fed via two hot and cold 15mm copper water pipes from the kitchen, which run unprotected through a brick/plaster wall.
How would you advise the customer on this? Is it necessary to replace and sleeve? The pipe appears undamaged.
Thanks,
Jennie

You need to do the right thing, Jennie, tell the customer that it should be protected and why. Inform them of what you would need to do to rectify the job and of the additional cost to them. It is then up to them to make the decision.

If a customer ignores my advice I always include a note in my invoice as to what I recommended, why I recommended it and the reason that the customer chose not to go ahead. Basically, cover your back in case it goes pear-shaped in the future.

Hi Jennie, all copper pipes running through concrete, brick, cement, screed and plaster should be sleeved. As above i for one wouldnt be coming back if the custard insisted on no sleeving.

it will probably be alright for years but advise the customer and if they want to pay do it.
