removal of hydroblocks or boiler from wall I'm afraid (you can manage with just the left hand block out but much swearing may b required)

Be very careful when you remove the hydro block. First one I ever did and I dropped the washer from the top of it in to a void. Turns out the washer is an oval piece of metal with a washer pressed in it. 10 minutes of panic and dangling a magnet in the void and I managed to get the washer out. During the panic I rang my merchants to order the washers and they said it was a few days to get them as direct from Worcester.

So, if you are removing the hydro block you need to replace the washers for the flow/return etc and those are part number 8-716-115-535-0 and then those funny shaped seals are 8-716-115-673-0 Only a few quid a packet so well worth having them on board just in case

Sounds like the seal they use on the gas pipe...

They used to put an additional fibre washer in for the gas & then decided the metal / rubber one kept the gas bonded... Although the nut & brass connector is all metal so I would have put a new fibre in if I could not find it :p

It's an odd shaped seal, oval piece of metal with two prongs on either side of it. Would be tricky to use fibre washer as it fits snug in to a recess but I would have tried anything had I not found it!

Oh right, I'm thinking of something else then :p

The last couple of times I have replaced the plate hex on these they came with new seals for all asociated broken seals on the hydroblocks and new retaining clips too including the metal flow and return washer/seal which sit inside the plastic ratcheting collars which is the one you are referring to.

That's good to hear. I was removing the block to change the PRV. Where the boiler was located meant removing from the wall would have been even worse than pulling the block out.

I have done plenty of left hand blocks( flow units). I think That sounds the best option. Thanks Gents.

Is it just me who has a serious dislike of worcesters?

How easy is it to get left hydro out always worried about things leaking. As for plate I removed boiler on the 2 I did

I'm sure you can get the plates out by just moving the Dhw pipe out of the way and drop it down that way.

If you have good access to boiler then removing cold and poss hot it can be done

I just take the hydroblock out. Once you have done it a couple times it seems easy.

I took out the flow unit and managed to get it out. Think it helped the boiler was on a stand-off. Not too bad a job really. Still more difficult than it should be

Thanks for the help

Old thread I know...Sounds over kill but I generally drop the boiler when doing these, especially if pipework runs behind the boiler. Might as well change the vessel too as that's probaly gone or will do when you refill! PRV?

changed a grant plate hex on friday, blood everywhere, bleedin things are so sharp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are ridiculously sharp. Mate at work has had stitches on 2 seperate occasions when working on these. Really popular round my way too for some reason. Always changing vessels, left hand blocks and the early fans which pop when power back on after work. Changed main exchanger recently, was easier than I was expecting
