RePlumb

Hello all,

New to the forums (obviously) and in need of a little help.

I have an ageing Myson Apollo combi in need of a service, last done two years ago, the system was flushed and a magnetic filter installed at the same time.

The wall mounted thermostat probably needs replacing also (Honeywell analogue "foil" type) took a bit of a blow when a new 3 pc suite was delivered a few years back, and doesn't trip in when (IMO) the heat drops to the point that it SHOULD trip in.

On top of this I need some sound advice on how to get the best from this system, as for the last few years, winters have been absolutely freezing in this house (3 bed detached, circa 1992) Things aren't helped by it being a microbore system that feeds the rads. It may just be a question of balancing it all up, but hey what do I know!

I've had two Plumbers lined up for this work in the last month, both recommendations by friends/neighbours, neither of whom have even bothered to come out and take a look.

In addition, I have numerous minor issues that I would guess, any self respecting Plumber/GE would fix up in minutes, IE: leaking taps, leaking shower unit, zero pressure to the upstairs bathroom cold water/sink.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks for getting back to me, I may have to take you up on that unless anyone else is available a little sooner, A1P perhaps?

Hi all,

It's been a few weeks now so thought I'd best update this thread.

Shortly after my previous post, A1P's Dad kindly PM'ed me offering to act as liaison between myself and A1P (Rob). After discussing the extent of the situation through PM, Rob got in touch, and set up a date and time to pay a visit to assess the situation.

After the first visit, during which Rob balanced the rads, which improved the dispersion of heat throughout the house enormously .. we agreed to set up a date and time to actually go through the numerous problems I had, and fix them. This happened last week, everything is working better than it has done in years, the aging Myson Apollo boiler is still trundling along, and for the first winter in a loooong time, I actually feel warm!

I just want to extend my thanks to Rob (and his Dad) on these good forums, without which I would I'm sure, still be struggling to find a decent and reputable Plumber/Gas Engineer.

By the way, and if anyone has need for or is interested, I have the original instruction manual for the Myson. it includes Servicing instructions and the wiring diagrams. It's pretty beat up as it was left on top of the boiler all these years (probably not the best place for it!) but is certainly legible and may be of some use to someone, I'll scan it and upload as a PDF if anyone wants.

Once again, many MANY thanks to Rob! Top Bloke!
