Hi everyone im new to this forum and need any advice you can give i currently have a locksmith business and have been wanting to start doing plumbing work again (Dad was a plumber) i have not done any plumbing work since i was 18 29 now i have been looking at these intensive courses i live in beckenham Kent and have looked at two the Able training course and The Plumbing Academy im not sure which one to go for i also read they dont do on site training to get your portfolio hours done for the N.V.Q and for your gas. This means i would have to find a company to take me on so i could complete my portfolio on both subjects

1. What is the likelihood of a company taking me on to do the hours
2. What are these training centers like

Any help would be greatly appreciated

a little birdy told me that locksmiths earn a packet, guess this isnt true if your wanting to be a plumber lol, there is not alot of work at the moment and im not sure about the courses as i done an apprenticeship but if you already worked as a plumber and know a bit about it then it might be right for you

to be honest you might struggle obviously with an aprentership you gain practical experience aswell as knowledge. In the true image of things you never stop learning due to new materials and components on the market. Im 26 and has been doing pipefitting and plumbing since my apretership when i was 16 if your looking for only the nvq then a crash course serves it purpose. but to actually learn plumbing your best option i would say would to get a labouring or mates job with a plumber for a year or 2 watch and learn then go for a crash course this way you would be more confident that what you are doin in college makes more sense to you.

my joiner is wanting to do the course and he told me that your not allowed within 10 feet of a locksmith while he is working, is this true ??

Alright redsaw there are alot of courses out there but the best one is the master locksmith association thats the one i did the introduction to locksmithing course lasts for a week and it is pretty intense then you go back for a gaining entry course which is two days then your on your own you have to learn the rest as you go

Alright GQuigley locksmiths use to earn good money but not anymore to many have a go so called locksmiths out there now working for peanuts and yes as a locksmith i can tell customers to walk away from me whyle i work so they cannot see how i break into there property or car
