You've probably had alot of ppl ask this question but im gonna anyway, Are these fast track plumbing courses worth the money they ask for them? I have tried on numerous occasions to get a apprenticeship doing plumbing but never actually found a placement or training. Its something ive wanted to do for years but could never get into it the closest i got was being a labourer on site lol hoping you can help cheers jon:)

The fast track won't help you, i have recently finished a two year course at a proper college and i have only scratched the surface and must get a job as plumber's mate for a while ( a few years maybe) before i will be ready to go it alone.

depends on what you pay and the level of training ,nvq 2 and no experience you will still find it hard to get a job .due to ecconomic situation there are very few jobs out there at the moment.most employers are looking for 4 years post training experience.but good training is never a waste of money.ask your training provider for recomendations from previous trainees.dont part with your money till you are shure of what you are going to get out of the training provided

They are worth it because there are basically no apprenticeships. So if you want to get into plumbing there's virtually no other option. But they are the first step, not the last one. Not even the middle one.

But yes, select the right course (a reputable and established one that is 12 weeks or longer) and be prepared to spend a number of years (how many depends on your existing experience and skill) afterwards working for free or for pennies until you've gained both the qualifications and experience needed to resembe someone who has done an apprenticeship. Then you might get a job.

watertight is right it is virtuly the only way on to the ladder,in the construction industry in this country the only thing that matters is the bottom line, even the biggest of them dont seem to care that not to train people leaves them without tradesmen at a latter date, but i suppose when the polish plumbers run out they can get some from india etc ,they dont care as long as its cheap

I did fast track, but had good engineering background, only did it that way because I could not find any other way into the industry.

Must say that I think now is not the time to be doing it, I'd hang on till the economic recovery is more solid, many pundits are saying they expect the economy to dip again (some say a double dip is a certainty) so be careful you are not buying an expensive ticket for a ride on a slow boat up ***t creek with no paddle!!!!
