Hi my name is Richard Kemp. I have just paid for myself to re-train at Rugby College for the City and Guilds 6129 - and passed. I am now looking for some work experience around the Rugby area (but also willing to travel to Cov, Northampton area etc..)

I am hoping that with this hands-on work experience I can then go onto complete my NVQ 2 etc... As it is proving very hard to get any work without the NVQ 2 but without the experience you cant get NVQ 2 so its a bit of a vicious circle really!! I am 29, have a car and full driving license.

I am willing to work for nothing, as the experience is my main objective here. I hope that someone will be willing to give me a chance to further my plumbing career....??

If I were you mate I'd pick up the yellow pages and start at the beginning of the section and ring everyone offering your services for free.
There's a lot of people in similar situations to you so you have to be pro-active. You'll be more likely to pick something up that way than on here unless you're really lucky.
Good luck!

I'm in much the same position. One of the people on my course in Barry did exactly what EPH suggested - she got a plumber to take her on but he was just about the last one in the Yellow Pages Listing.
It's tough

I've sent a private message to one of the moderators to set up a Specific Sub forum for "apprentices/plumbers mates wanted or available" to make it easier for everyone concernred find something whilst freeing up other forums for more practical posts -

Maybe others could suggest it to the moderators too?

I am the female mentioned in the above post. Actually I didn't find a plumber in the yellow pages as they all said no! I found my plumber through a friend in the end. I used yell.com and the yellow pages and I had no luck at all. Have you tried your local council?
