Crofts "Brick Wall" thread led me spent half an hour on something I had been thinking about for a while.

We all know the problems with customer supplying stuff that they found on ebay, or bought from DodgierPlumb.com but it isn't always easy to marshal the arguments and remember all the issues when you are put on the spot.

I have tried to put them here (pdf attached), in the form of a policy which people might like to use, adapt, or completely ignore!

I know that tap-a-talk users can't read attached pdfs, so have also included an image.

I hope it helps. If it doesn't - nothing lost!

Thanks Ray. Would you mind if I add this to my T&Cs page on our documentation?

Ray said it's fine, but he'll charge you at his standard hourly rate unless you buy his gear.

No problem Keiran - thats what it was intended for. It might take a bit of personalisation - for example, you may get asked what your mark-up is, and you might want to have a form of words pre-prepared. For example - "Our mark-up varies depending on the nature of the materials, the scale of the job and the complexity of the design."

Sharpen up Ray, your getting soft, giving things away for free! pfftt! You'll never get a seat on Dragons den at this rate!

I'm not giving anything away for free Sam. Its not in my interests for your customers to buy from Ebay or DodgierPlumb. ;)

I need them to buy from you!

I thought you sold all these dodgy non erp pumps from your sister site dodgierplumb.com?

I have often thought about opening a spoof site - shytenastybuteversocheapplumbing.co.uk just for a laugh. Probably make a fortune!

I think someone needs to run something like the new VW adverts but for sanitaryware..

Thanks ray, I think ill personalise and print a few copy's for the van

main thing to note is that the labour for fit only costs far more than supply and fit.................

This form is also good for annoying know-it-all, get-in-the-way, watch-like-a-hawk, used-to-be-an-engineer types on small jobs who have "everything you need" in a bag from their shed including mismatched push-fit waste parts, a ball-valve salvaged from a previous CWSC, an assortment of unidentifiable washer resembling things and a pair of grips you'd need two hands to operate.

Just make sure to add on loads of extra boxes to fill and have it in triplicate. Sign here, initial here, initial here, sign here, date of birth here. You could send him off with it while you get on.

Thanks, very useful
One other thing I would add,
Hourly rate or quote (whichever is dearest) will quadruple if I'm left in a house with 3 cats and one full litter tray.....as I was today until I bailed
