We have fitted a vintage style toilet and it appears after 3-4 weeks that the cistern is porous, blue lines have started to appear on what looks like crazing in the glaze. Is there any product I can use to seal the cistern from the inside, or have I got to bite the bullet and replace it?

It is actually powdered peas. Mix it with boiling water. Tastes like sh u no what but it fills the gaps if you pour the powder in.

An old trick since before you were born

I am grateful for your advice, if somewhat sceptical, but I'll try anything because we're busy with the rest of the restoration and I could do without revisiting stuff I've already done.

It works but i don't know if you can still buy it! Never seen it for years.

You could try internal leaksealer like Sentinel. That would probably work if you fired in some hot water.

Bitumen paint? for the cistern....

Pease brose
More like "pease take" I think

Take the cistern off, thoroughly dry out and coat with some polyester resin or similar sealing compound.
