right im a car breakdown mechanic who does not give up.MY BOILER CONSTANTLY OVER FLOWS TO HEADER TANK,BUT DOES NOT OVERFLOW FROM THERE SO HAPPY WITH THAT(after telling british gas reason for overflow was ballcock dripping causing overflow,they had changed the pump and two way valve and said will reqire a power wash at around £700 well you can guess what i said)flushed out system took whole day with hose pipe connecting bleedig out readiators etc,cleaner but system still keeps firing up too much and over flowing hot water to header tank is there a valve in the boiler likelt to be stuck or another drain cock around the boiler thanks for your time tony 07966607323

Well, the reason the tank over flows/pumps over and the boiler goes on and off to much is not just through sludge but because of a restriction in the system near the pump, this needs to be removed and flushing through with water and mild chemicals will not do this
The trouble is if you use stronger chemicals you can cause all sorts of damage to system and then still not remove this blockage completely, so end up paying for chemical flush, then new boiler and rads
On this system you have a potterton profile, which by the way is a very good boiler but it has a cast iron heat exchanger and this has probably caused the restriction due to corrosion
There are probably two places it most likely could be
1 if you have a ‘H’ configuration in the airing cupboard i.e. were bottom’s of pipework ‘H’ are flow from boiler then blockage will probably be in that section, drain and cut pipework and clean
Or
2 it could be on flow from boiler were cast iron heat exchanger is connected to copper pipework again you would have to drain, cut pipework(or undo compression couplings) and clean out manually

power flush with correct chemicals can be sought at a more reasonable 250-300 pounds and at the end you will have totally clear running water
problem has occured through lack of maintenance and its like someone bringing you a car that hasnt had the oil changed for ten years and saying it seems a bit sluggish
i would def contact a powerflush pro and clean the system thouroughly

Check stats.Is overheat stat ok?Is your water soft?Loads of limescale in kettle?more info on area please?bg £700 for a PF.Ha as other reply said £250-£300 is about right
