hi im a newly qualified gas engineer with a limited knowledge of boiler faults. This boiler fires up for 1 minute then goes to lockout. flame rectification sensors have been changed but the fault still remains. Any thoughts on what this fault could be? any advice would be much appreciated

presume happening on hot water and heating
pump,pump flow switch
air pressure switch
check flue clear
not usually pcb,electrodes or leads

doesn't all this need to be proven before boiler even fires up?

blocked condensate bottle,or faulty connection screw on bottle[some were the wrong size or pcb, pull the white lead of the bottle,if its now ok theres your fault,if however its not and the boiler is still igniting and then locking out,and you have done a continuity test on the detection electrode/lead you have a faulty pcb but you must check for reversed polarity before any checks as this particular honeywell pcb is quite reliable but reversed polarity will kill it[and the replacement]

thanks a lot mark i will check this tomorrow, just a question on the reversed polarity, the boiler is not a new install and has been working in the past so does this rule out reversed polarity?

no not if householder as been messing or sparkys been in seen this happen a few times are you familiar with a multi meter and do you own a martindale/check plug if its fed by a plug thease will rule out rev polarity if its a spur multimeter on continuity should not have continuity on n-e e-l n-l

I would of said reverse polarity been to one before fires for a second then shuts down

yeah just recently learnt how to use a multimeter i'll do everything you've said tomorrow and see how it goes thanks again

Been to boiler today and checked all the above and boiler still going out after about a minute in both modes, could it be the gas valve? and does anybody know what the resistance of the gas valve should be?

if its locking out after a few seconds,AND STILL going to ignition, and you have checked all that has been suggested it has nothing to do with the gas valve it is the pcb

No the flame just goes out and the red light comes on the control panel

have you checked gas pressures, flue o/heat stat, thermistor, also does pump spin and flow switch stay open(lifted)?

checked all above today and the boiler is still not working however when i disconnected the 2 leads from the gas valve the boiler stayed fired until i re attached the wires now the boiler stays lit for around 4 minutes then goes out then re fires and continues this sequence

this is a strange fault for this boiler you need to have a word with baxi but i would suggest a faulty pcb or gas valve abkot uk are quite cheap for these sorry i dont have resistances or part numbers left my book in the van and its in having a pump- ecu do you have the baxi trade helpline number?

08443358428 try to get Barney negative but helpful and knows his stuff, pity about my book could tell you instantly sods law!

Sounds to me like a flue fault..Do have a standard concentric flue or is it vertical or extended.

Try it with the combustion door off.(Testing purpose only). Will elimate flue fault if it still goes out.
