Hi,
I have a Potterton Combi 80. It's 10 years old and was installed by the last owner.
Suddenly the central heating has stopped working. Hot water still works perfectly.
Any ideas as to why this might be?
Thanks for any help,

When you put the heating on, does the boiler keep firing up for very short periods and then go off?
This boiler has a diverter valve which has a wax capsule component on the front of it, when you run a hot tap, cold water runs across the capsule and puts the diverter into the hot water mode. Check for a dripping/dribbling hot tap somewhere in the house. This can be sufficient to keep the diverter in hot water mode and prevent the heat going out of the diverter valve to the radiators.

Is the pump running?
As I recall with these boilers, the heat exchanger is a crossflow type and the water can heat even if the pump is not turning.
If steam is coming out of the auto air vent at the top of the boiler left hand side, it looks like yer pump is stuck, it'll be a myson
pump which would explain it. You need to call in a GRI to fix that.

I'd fix the leaking hot tap 1st and try it again. Alternatively you could shut the cold mains off on your stop tap and open the kitchen cold tap to let the mains pressure out, and try the heating again. If the heating works then you know for sure it was your leaky hot tap causing the problem. It'll give you confirmation one way or 'tother. If that doesn't work then I would think your pump had seized.

I am a newbie here, but I think there is a forum on here where you can shout for a plumber for your locality.
Perhaps one of the oldies can answer that one.
Good luck.
