Potterton profile 50. Attempts to light over and over, burner momentarily lights

Hi guys

Went out to the above job today, turned out to be a waste of time as one of our lads already went out Saturday night and turned it off and has a part on order.

The symptoms are if you switch either ch or hw on at programmer, the boiler attempts to light. You can see the flames then it dies down, it will do this over and over. So i suppose it does light for a second or so.

What would you be looking at?

I want to see what replies i get then i can say what part he has ordered.

Not me trying to be clever just don't want to influence your replies, I'm not questioning what he has done either, asking out of interest (and also because it might be put on me to repair it).

It's called cycling, pcb. Common fault,

check if the pilot stays alight if it does its gas valve if it doesnt its pcb

Ok, this lad has ordered the gas valve.

I was thinking PCB but didn't do any checks to say so with any confidence. I didn't know until I got there that he had already been and ordered part. paperwork already all done, called him and he said to just leave it as it is. If i start touching i then have to complete more paperwork. I am not set up on my pda to order parts yet so was limited to what i could do. Customer didn't particularly want me there much longer as there was nothing i could do.

Will have to check the pilot next time i come across this.
