Hi all, when you want to power flush a combi boiler and you turn the mains power of to the boiler, how do you know if the diverter valve is in central heating and not hot water?
I.e. the water is being pumped through the main heat exchanger?

use a pump head attachment and turn the central heating circuit on and the boiler will warm the water your pushing around

Hi Lame, thought you had to turn the boiler of on flushing thanks?

Hi all sorry, to bring this post up again, but I would like to know the answer?
So no mains power to the boiler?
What position does the diverter valve go to?
What is the default position of this valve on a combi boiler thanks?

whats to stop you having the boiler working once youve filled the system ? read some manufacturers manuals on flushing, google norstrum etc

Hi lame, taught to flush, with system dead?
Reverse flow on flush machine, can damage pump?

Thanks Lame I don,t know how?
I am a heating retard!
Can you explain please?

Hello,

Why would you flush through the boiler to bring more debris into the boiler ?

I would rather turn all off under the boiler and do the flush but just the system not the boiler.

To make sure the boiler is clean : I would clean the steel plate heat exchanger rather then pushing all debris from the system through the boiler. In my opinion you would cause more issues in the future rather then preventing it from problems. All the black suits and mud from the rads you push eventually through the boiler.

In my opinion not good idea.

Hi matchless, now I am even more confused.
If a boiler was showing signs of kettleing, surely you would have to flush the internal of the heat exchanger?
I thought you always flush through the whole system?
But note my title thanks.

Hello learn plum,

I am just talking about my opinion, the way I am flushing systems.

I am better off to flush just the rads and pipe work. During the flush I'm taking a rubber Hammer and knock on the bottom of the radiators to loosen the sludge.

You can get also a suitable machine which you put at the bottom of the rad and it starts vibrating. Obviously you will need to dump water as well during the flush. Do not forget radiator by radiator not all at once ( depends how big you system is ).

It's totally up to you how you do your flush. I just descale the heat exchanger in the meantime and afterwards all is fine.

I guess everybody does it different.

I just had never an issue afterwards.
