Im thinking of getting a few new powertools. And was wondering would you guys go with corded powertools or li-on cordless ones. Im thinking about new angle grinder, sds drill.
And if you would go cordless what voltage batterys are man enough?

sds mains or 11o,battery drivers always LI-ION they work much better than ni-cd,i would go mains or 110 with the grinder as well in regards to voltage in li-ion 14v equal or better than 18v in ni-cd,but li-ion battery's can have problems do some research into whats best first

I was wondering this because with the makita tools you can buy just bare drills etc, so you dont have to pay for loads of batterys and chargers. i think i might go down the li-on battery route as i dont want to be lugging a 110 transformer and extension leads round.

you need it for your core drill if you are gas engineer ! beter be 110 v and safe then using 230v ! all my other tools are bosch on battery s
buy the most expansive you can afford ,than put them in a van vault tool box in your van and have a tool insurance !!!!!

I was recently on a job in north cornwall where a couple of guys installing MVHR were using a Fein multitool I know a lot of guys on here swear by them, I dont have one but having seen one in action I will definatley be getting one soon

i would get a 110v sds if you are only getting one. Try and get one with chisel action.

and a battery driver, cir saw, rip saw.

as regards the grinder it would depend on what its for, if its for cutting a hole a roof for a flue for exapmle then id get a battery one.

i currently use makita 18v li-on and i think they are really good.

I was looking at these also, what would we be using them for ?

I have a cordless sds and a 240v sds, the 240v is for coring holes only and the battery one is for everything else, thinking about selling my battery sds though and getting a 36v Bosch cordless seen a good deal on the net

These guys were first fixing air ducting through stud walls and floors, admitedly we would just burn through with speed bits for pipe but what impressed me is in certain places like awkward corners or where you want to do notching and you cant get a saw in, it was so much neater and quicker than a hammer and wood chisel, so I would say that yes it is an essential.

I have battery combi drill, SDS 110v corded drill with chisel action, battery or 110v jigsaw, 110v angle grinder.

Also I bought a hilti battery sds drill and a hilti sds breaker with clutch which can cut cores, 110v curcular saw, 110v power planer and stihl stone saw but these are not needed to begin with.

I also believe that no loveslave should be let loose with any power tools in their first year of trainning, give em the tools we used to use back in the 20th century, they then give you older guys the respect you deserve when a days work was a days work, and the guys with the scars to prove it will know what I mean

i use bosch 110 kango, sparky 110 core dril, makita 110 2kg sds +circular saw and 4" grinder, ive had my dewalt 18v combi drill and impact driver and 18v sds for about 8 years and just buy new 2.6 amp ni-mh batterys of ebay every couple of years, i hate throwing something away just because the batteries packed in, also i cant justify spending £100+ on 1 li-on battery when i could buy 2 ni-mh for the same price the tight arse in me would go ballistic (not to mention the missus).

typical old plumber speech "when i was a lad, we had a mole skin, footprints, and a lump hammer if we were lucky" its the 21st century were taking 1hour to hang a rad with a rawl tool wont cut the mustard, any way whats wrong with kangos and cordless tools its called progress.

and dont i know it! i agree that plumbers of old probably had more practical skills than guys of my generation and i would like to have those skills, plumbers today dont have to fabricate things on site as much these days as everything is boxed up ready to go where as years ago plumbers had to make things.

yeah i get it, your funny but thats ok i like funny people and acknowledge youve done some major posting to get in nearly 6000 in 18 months i better get my socks on!
