Hi

British gas fitted a new pressure release valve to my 10 year old Euro Combi boiler, as the pressure kept rising during operation and then losing pressure when switched off. The next day the pressure is now .5 two mornings in a row (before it would take several days for it to drop) and my central heating wont come on until i have adjusted the pressure again. They charged me £160 for this. I called the BG engineer and he now thinks its down to a leak. Is this likely as somebody else told me its probably the expansion vessel. I would reather pay for a new boiler than keep on paying for somebody to come out and not fix things. Should i cancel the BG engineer?

Many thanks for any advice you could give me

Charlie

Find yourself a local gas safe engineer. You've paid BG to fix it and it's obviously not the bit he's changed, get him back and get it fixed. But in future get yourself a local engineer.

You will have a pipe going to outside bent back to the wall, is this leaking water when the heating is on?
if so get bg back to fix the issue or as said already cut your losses with bg and use someone local or recommend

Thanks, that is what i am doing and that is definitely what i will be doing in the future.

Go round and check for any signs of leaks , radiator valves.
maybe a possible leak under floorboards if you can't see one

Have checked all radiators. No leaks. Is it likely to be the expansion vessel?
If so is it easy to detect for an engineer?
How long should it take?
If needs to be replaced how much to do this approximately?

I am not looking to do this myself. Would just like some info before calling people out and getting charged.

it could be air in the system which has escaped via the auto air vent in the boiler , top up the pressure when system is cold to 1.5 bar and keep an eye on it for the next few days , but only when system is cold ideally first thing in the morning

I have done this the last two mornings when system is cold and both mornings the heating has failed to come back on, as back at 0.5bar.
