carmad

how would you go about pricing a big ish job

not just a normal repair or replacement ?

write everything down and work it out

i kind off figured that for materials

i should have been more spasific

what way would you work your labour ?

esp when its not a straight forward job (fancy bathrooms ect)

times your dayrate for long you think it will take and 2days extra to allow for unseen problems

😀 Brilliant!

I split the job into smaller jobs and add together

So on bathroom suite job

1.First bit would be removal of bathroom suit, tiles, flooring, any walls ect
and taking away rubbish

2.Then first fit,running new pipework ,wastes,for new suite,wiring if doing, for new lights,extractor fan,ect
Also if any items have to be left working ie w/c,so will have to be removed, fitted every day and area left usable

3.Then making good/re building structure,walls ceiling,floors,sealing all as required

4.Then the tiling and grouting

5.Then bathroom suit instalation and last fix of fittings, lights, units ect

6. Then decorating if doing, snaging, removal of rubbish from site

The above sections I list on quotation, although give customer bottom line figure
The customer can see what is involved also
I have got jobs by doing this even more expensive than others because customer can see what needs doing to do job and they realise the other cheaper quotes would not be able to do it all for the price they gave
This also helps to set stage payments with customer, say inbetween sections
Also any extras, bring up with customer during what ever stage,so they can see issue

we've found by writing each bit you lose part of job - our de-commision and removal of waste is set at 200, and you get them trying to do it themselves to save the money. 2 of us to remove bathroom suite and get it desposed of - im sure that we lose money on that!

also tiling they can always find a cheaper tiler lol.

I try hard not to break jobs down to much rather give ab all in price when you itemise they start wanting to take this bit of how much for extra item then get tied up in knotts when they make it come to less than i started with for more work as said previous big jobs are just a series of little jobs

Hi. As has been said price for a skip etc if required. If the job needs to be designed. Draw the job up (pipe runs, sizes, appliances, boiler etc.) take off the quantities. This will give you a full list of materials. You can then divide the drawing into days work (wages) then plus 25 percent profit. Providing you finish the work in the time you allocated its happy days. However if you are giving a quote in writing get someone to proof read it as your spelling is a little naff, and don't give the right impression? Good Luck

I do not break the price down, thats a lump sum at end of quotation, just works,if big enough
As said ,if you did every unskilled bit, customers would look at figures and think I will do that,I will get my dad to do that ect,not only may you loose the work, you will spent twice as long doing job,as you willl be waiting for others
Its hitting the happy medium
