been to quote for a boiler swap with my mate . old glowworm fitted with 3 x 22mm pipes to boiler we wondered what 3rd pipe was for vent or feed or separate rtn to cyl . in airing cupboard standard close couple feed and vent - ended cutting flkoor while there to check - found 3 rd pipe was a vent straight to boiler so htg has 2 vent pipes . never quote if unsure or build in an allowance

I hate quoting jobs where I'm not entirely sure what all the pipes are... Or if its all behind boxing!

Im not too keen on taking up floors etc, just so the custard can tell the next guy quoting what all the pipes are lol, plus we don't get paid to quote :(

At end of day you can get around anything so say that there is some reconfiguration but don't tell custard what as said before.

Put wet vac on it and you can identify how it's connected without a lot damage.

Sometimes customers think i am taking the p when i say i don't need to look much where anything goes because i already know with a quick glance.
A few say well the other guy who came in had boards up and looked here or there.
Well there are a lot of amateurs out there

I have never taken any floorboards up on a quote and never will, if something looks a bit unusual I just add extra on the price to allow for it.

this house had the boiler moved with the extension about 8 years ago and they refitted the old glowworm and extended pipes so alarm bells rang . wanted to cover all possibilities as this was on a tight quote

very rarely get me out the comfort of my own home these days to quote just lob a figure at it see what happens end of the day its plumbing not bridge building

Building bridges is easy ! Now dock levellers and blast walls that's a ballache!

never quote just give estimates, then if they insist on a quote add £499, come the end of the job when they quibble I only took 3 days as per estimate, I just point out they signed a quote and thats the agreed figure :) if they had agreed as per estimate, the price could even have dropped if all went well :)
