can any one help i have recently noticed that my heating is turning itself on with the room thermostat when the room thermostat clicks on..(the programmer is turned off).. i have replaced the programmer thinking that it must be faulty hoping that it would fix the problem, but it hasn't . the hot water works as normal....any ideas.......thanks

could do with more info , make model of boiler type of system cylinder indirect or direct, location of boiler any frost stats?

as a guess i would say the frost stat is kicking in because o fthe recent cold weather. if it is a modern combi the pump will run first at say 5 deg celsius if the temp continues to drop burner will light to heat rads up to about 30 deg celsius. hope this helps

thanks for your reply the boiler is a halstead best 40 (indirect system) boiler is in the garage... if i turn the room thermostat down so it clicks past room temp the heating goes off...the problem is that when i turn it back up so the thermostat clicks at room temp the heating fires up (this happens with the programmer turned off) it dosn't seem to matter what the outside temp is could it be the thermostat??

so basically the heating is turning itself on with the room thermostat when the programmer is turned off!!!!!

It sounds like you have a permanent 240v going to your room stat rather than a switched live from your programmer, which in turn would send 240v to your boiler etc and come on, this would also be the case with a frost stat wired into the circuit too.
You need to check your programmer and the wiring. Has any wiring been altered at all? I have seen with a Randall programmer that the switched live from the programmer was on permantantly even without any led's or signs that the programmer is on. Hope that helps

Cheers
Sean
