Problem with potterton prima boiler

I recently moved into my new house and tried the boiler i tried to turn the thermostatic control but it wouldnt move,on closer inspection the back of the dial had melted so i replaced it and proceeded with the start up procedure.The boiler started up with no problems, however when i selected ch the boiler wouldnt fire up and the front panel got so hot a sticker which was on it started to bubble. What do you think?

I just wanted to add that the boiler fired up when i selected hw but not when i selected ch.Could this be a problem with my ch controls?

Quick update i changed the central heating controls which in turn solved my central heating problem.As for the panel becoming so hot one of the brackets holding the panel on had broke off so it wasnt sealed causing a draft resulting in the flame being drawn towards the panel.
