Push fit fittings on chrome copper

Been ripping out a few jobs where the surface pipework is ran in chrome compression. Although in the walls it's all poly and they have even come straight out of poly plumb elbows with the chrome pipe. I have always been so against that and even though it's not highly recommended I have always used compression in the wall. I'm just wondering how others go about this if ever they do work on chrome coated copper.

Sorry should have said that the chrome wasn't filed down or anything. Just popped into the elbows

I Personally would never use plastic on chrome. I've either used compression or filed down to copper and soldered. You saying you don't use plastic at all ermintrude?

If theres already plastic there and you have to use a push fit fitting rather than an end feed fitting then just file off the chrome plating down to the bare copper underneath before inserting it into the push fit. I use a rasp to take the CP off and then buff it up afterwards with abrasive strips, much quicker than using a file.

Only on ufh and in my house - but that's only full lengths no fittings from Water and ch manifolds in kitchen

Theres nothing wrong with using plastic fitting on chrome Rybo as long as you take off the CP first as this is what makes the gripper ring slip on it.

Say if there was already plastic 15mm already in a stud wall and you had to turn a couple of feeds for a towel rail out in chrome, personally I would rather use polyplumb elbows with the chrome plating filed off rather than using compression elbows which would be more prone to springing a leak after you've turned the pipes out in chrome and then a plasterboarder comes along and knocks the pipework about a bit.

I've totally gutted the place and going to repipe my way. I was just asking the question of does any out there with any sense actually use chrome pipe and push fit
together.

Fair play mate. Id love to be able to use copper all the time but price, accessibility and occasional risk means I cant. Although Id never use plastic on show, I know that even if it's getting boarded over and hidden away that it is as neat and tidy as possible.

plastic has its place but i agree its best fitted in complete runs if its below floors of in walls/boxings i tend to use a made up manifold sytem below the bath and run to each item in full lengths, with mains preasures ten mm is good for wcs and basins provided the runs are short

when you file your chrome you should only do it where the grab ring grips, if you just file it all the oring wont seal or can leak later on,

if your using john gest if you put the fitting on and tighten it up then spin it round it will leave a score where you need to file

ive not had a leak this way, I find its only really practical for underfloor connecting onto rad tails
