Hello guys. My friend is currently having a house refurb. He's been quoted for converting vented to unvented. Relocating boiler and cylinder to garage together. Worcester 35cdi system and a 300ltr cylinder.be done in plastic piping with a zone valve to serve underfloor heating(they're not including doing the underfloor heating in the cost though) install nest controls. They have quoted £7k inc vat. I get that it's an impossible question but does that sound like an ok ballpark?

So his boiler is moving approximately 6 foot onto another wall into the garage, and the unvented cylinder to be sited next to it. The stop tap/incoming supply is also in this area, so the major work would be supplying the outlets with the mains.

It’s dead easy ...get a quote from British Gas , then halve it, then call back get the dummy back , reduce it to bare bones
Then give to 1 out 3 who give you a written QUOTATon , not an estimate . centralheatking

This dont make sense Rob would you clarify what you are stating here.

Seems reasonable to me ask the installer for a breakdown on his price see what your actually getting and what's been allowed for , I would advised he have a new boiler they don't like being moved the install can be completed in the garage and that just leaves a day or two for the change over. Kop

What we used to say to some customers is get a quote from BG them call the salesperson back and negotiate a lower price. Then show us their final quote. We would usually then be able to half it and make a profit. Then the op should get a fixed price quotation not an estimate from 3 outfits and not nec take the cheapest. Make sure it’s not a mick mouse boiler instead of the original one quoted.....centralheatking

Why would you tell your customer to get a price from BG other than gain a vastly inflated price, their your potential customer don't make sense to me sell yourself and what you can do for them charge a fair price and communicate well with your client , make sure they know exactly what you are pricing for personally i never give quotes i always state my pricing is a estimate and give a breakdown and the planning for the project you can so easily be caught out. kop

That’s what we used to do and it worked for us, our commercial, world was fixed price especially the medical gas work so the transition to do at a domestic level was a winner for us. Beating a BG quote gave our customer confidence in the specification. Mainly did this with new customers regulars trusted us anyway. centralheatking

I worked in the commercial world for 30 years for various outfits doing health authority , school and university projects, I was commercial gas qualified often worked along side the med gas boys it's a whole different world, and I don't regret jacking it all in and going it alone should have done it years ago . Tis odd how we all differ. Personally I'd not be interested in how anyone else does it or quotes. I do (did) it properly to the best of my ability. If it was cheaper or more then that was simply as it was. So far as I was concerned, no one else cared about doing it the way I did it.

Personally I'd hate to intro BG to a job as often they'd sell using the FUD factor vs an independant and the advertising BS often wins people over - the fools :(
