I believe this used to be done to encourage circulation in an old system that wasn't pumped? I've never seen one done like it before.
I've not visited the job (don't even know where it is yet) but someone sent me photos of a rad they want changed to a floor standing towel rad thingy which would need both connections at the bottom on both sides.
She says it's in a block of flats with communal heating, the type that gets shut off during summer and then all comes back on in Oct or thereabouts.
Is it safe to assume the pipework pre-dates the system or are there still systems in blocks of flats in the country that won't work on a rad that isn't piped with one valve at the bottom and one at the top?
Thanks
